Our Purpose: “Love God. Love People. Serve The World.”

This is why we exist; this is why we do what we do the way we do it. We are committed to continually fulfilling this purpose because it grows out of God’s mission for the church and Jesus’ teachings about what it means to follow Him.

In Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said, "'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments."

That’s it! Everything God has called us to be and do is summed up with these 2 commands - “Love God . . . Love People!” This is a simple yet fully comprehensive way to explain why The Summit exists and what God expects from us as a church as well as individually.

How do we know what it means to “Love God . . . Love People”? We simply look to Jesus and the example He set for us to follow. Jesus Christ is the full embodiment of what it means to truly Love God with all your life and to Love People as yourself. And this truth is no more clearly seen than at the cross of Jesus when He gave His life for the world. The symbol of the cross of Christ is where the vertical element of “loving God” meets the horizontal element of “loving People”.

“Serve The World” comes out of Jesus' personal mission statement for His earthly ministry in Matthew 20:28, "For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many." Since we are commanded by God to follow Jesus and approach life as He did, then if that's what drove Him, as a result, it must drive our lives too.

So here at The Summit, we make this our motto, our battle cry, our reason for living - Why? Because this is what Jesus asks of us and has commanded of us. What’s more, this is what our world needs: people who are sold out to living lives of love for God and each other. This is what will really bring change to people and the world.
