The Summit Story:

The Summit began with a vision – a dream of starting a new church that was committed to reaching people with the Good News of God’s love and grace and then guiding them to full devotion to Jesus Christ – no matter what it takes. Underlying this dream was the conviction that church should be fresh, exciting, and relevant to today’s generation.

With the initial support of a sponsoring local church in Kernersville and months of planning, The Summit opened the doors of Southeast Middle School to hold its first worship service on Easter Sunday, 2000 with a core group of 12 families completely sold out to this vision and dream. Over the next couple of years, growth continued as many people experienced the life-change that only God can bring as they discover and pursue a devoted relationship with Jesus Christ.

In 2003, 32+ acres of land on High Point Road, near its intersection with Highway 311 was purchased. In December 2005, we were able to pay off the land in full. About the same time in 2005, we had to add a third Sunday morning service at the middle school to keep up with the growth. We continued to grow through 2006 and 2007 as more people came to faith in Christ and begin to discover and live out what it means to follow Him daily.

In February 2008, we held our first service in our 650 seat facility. Since then we've added more seating to accommodate our growth. And plans are underway for a satellite campus as well as expansion on our current property. Currently, our average weekend attendance is over 3,000 per weekend, which has led us to change our service schedule to include 4 identical Sunday services at 9:30am, 11:15am, 4:30pm and 6:00pm. The people keep coming. God keeps changing people's lives.

Since those early days, God has continued to bless The Summit with expanding opportunities to continue to fulfill its God-given mission and potential. As we look to our future, the "dream" has never been more clear nor our purpose more of a reality than now. Now more than ever, The Summit is committed to "Loving God, Loving People, and Serving The World" – no matter what it takes! We have no idea what God has for us in the future, but if our future path is anything like our historic journey up to this point, then we’re in for quite an incredible ride with HIM! We remind ourselves that all we are, do, and will become as a church is for Christ, because of Christ, and to the glory of Christ!
